intra:knit is a collaborative project created by Karen Modrei and Hazel Mallon. Unfolding at the domestic knitting machine, the project examines, distorts and unravels notions of the subject and object in the process of making and challenges perceived hierarchies that exist between maker, material and tools. Using technological elements such as sensing technology, the notion of the 'other' is accessed with sensitivity, empathy and humour, aiding in the representation of each acting part. Devised performance situations and the inter-activity of the work offers spectators an experience much like a theatre play; an invitation to consider the many bodies involved in the process of making; both human and non-human.
